Elvis
BREED: Great Pyrenees
SIZE: Extra Large
AGE: Puppy
SEX:Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
This handsome, fluffy baby is Elvis. He is only around 3-4 months old, his baby teeth are still coming in. Baby Elvis is going to be a BIG boy (100lbs+), he already weighs around 40lbs. He is very sweet, friendly and affectionate. Baby Elvis likes other dogs and kids too. Since he can be protective of his food (to prevent the sheep from eating it), we will place him in an adult home only. We are looking for a family for Baby Elvis that is experienced in training large working dogs and that will continue the training we started in his foster home.

Pippi
BREED: German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever Mix
SIZE: Medium
AGE: Puppy
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Pippi is an adorable lab/shepherd mix baby who found herself on death row in a high-kill shelter. She is only around 5-6 months old and very sweet. She’s currently weighing in at around 28lbs and may not be a very big girl when full grown. She is being fostered in the Philadelphia area and is getting along great with her foster sister Lola (featured in the pictures with Pippi). They love to play together and snuggle when it’s nap time. Pippi loves attention – the more the better she says! She has a lot of energy as do most puppies her age. She is curious and is always looking for something new to investigate. She loves people, kids, dogs – has not been exposed to many cats yet. She is very smart – picking up basic obedience commands pretty quickly. She’s mastered the ‘sit’command and is currently working on ‘stay’ and ‘down’. She is crate trained and doing wonderful with housebreaking. She is a very affectionate loving baby girl that will need someone to continue to work with her on obedience. She is up to date on shots, spayed and is on flea and heartworm prevention. Pippi is a wonderful pup looking for a family of her own. Her foster family has fallen in love with her and is sure you will too.

SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Britta is a sweet baby who landed on death row in a rural shelter. She is around 3-4 months old and her adult teeth are just starting to come in. The two girls live in the same foster home while they are waiting for their forever family to find them. Britta is up-to-date on shots and microchipped.

Sherman
BREED: German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Adult
SEX:Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Sherman is a handsome fellow with a fine disposition. He gets along well with most dogs even though he arrived here with two nasty wounds that were from dog bites. He is very well behaved, very smart and quiet. He would be a good choice for the first time owner or for a family wanting a well balanced, even tempered companion. Sherman is being fostered in TN bacause of the lack of foster homes in Baltimore. He is willing to travel to his new forever home. For more information about Sherman, call 615-230-9419 or email Prisi at percy40@comcast.net

Annie J
BREED: German Shepherd Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Puppy
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Annie J (the J is the initial of the two wonderful ladies who saved her from the shelter) was dumped at a rural shelter, with no prospects for adoption, by her family who did not want to be bothered by her hair. So they shaved her. Her hair will grow back in and she'll be a beautiful lady soon. Right now it is very short from the neck down, up to her tail, that is beautiful and fluffy. She has an unusual white "collar" around her neck, speckled with black dots. Very unique and cute! Annie J is sweet and friendly: she is great with other dogs and shares her kennel with another puppy, Britta. Annie J is around 8 months old. She is up-to-date with shots, microchipped and spayed. Annie J is a real sweetie, a very friendly and lively girl with a lot of energy (like most young shepherds). Her foster dad is working on her training, teaching her basic obedience and polite behavior. Her foster dad is also working with her on her house training. She does not have accidents in the crate, but needs to be supervised around the house. I she is being crated c with Britta and she is fine with it. She shares her foster home with four other dogs (all sizes, ages, and genders). She's good with other dogs and people. She weighed in at 33 lbs when she arrived and we think she is not going to be a large shepherd.

Emma
BREED: German Shepherd Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Sweet Emma was rescued from a high-kill shelter just hours before she was put to sleep. The people who met her fell in love with her and asked us for help. We were told that she is a wonderful dog: well behaved, great with children and other dogs. Sweet Emma is recovering from an upper respiratory infection that she picked up at the shelter. We expect her in Baltimore towards the middle of September. Emma is spayed, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative and on prevention.

Mama Mango
BREED:German Shepherd Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
This beautiful sable girl was picked up on August 11 in a new housing development. Apparently she was dumped there by her "family". As you can tell from the second photo, she was VERY, VERY PREGNANT. She is very sweet, but was in pitiful condition, close to heat exhaustion when she got into rescue. She delivered 10 babies two days later, on August 13. Clearly, Mama Mango will be very busy raising her babies for the next two months, after which she'll be available for adoption. She will be spayed prior to adoption.

--->
Kane
BREED: German Shepherd
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX:Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Kane is a handsome young man, around 1-2 years old, who one day appeared in the back yard of a family. He got along great with the resident dogs and their children. The family was unable to keep him so he ended up at the shelter: his owners never showed up to claim him. Kane quickly ran out of time at the shelter. The staff loved him and they contacted German Shepherd rescues to help him. This is how Kane ended up with us. Kane is not only very handsome but sweet and friendly as well. He was very thin when he arrived in his foster home - he must have been on his own for quite a while. Unfortunately Kane tested positive for heartworm. He was treated for heartworm in July and he has a clean bill of health how. He also gained weight and looks great right now. Kane enjoys life, attention, car rides, long walks and just having fun. He does not have accidents in his foster home and he is also crate trained. Kane likes kids, but may be a little too energetic for the very young ones. He greets new people with a lot of enthusiasm and thrives on attention. Kane is up-to-date on his shots, microchipped and neutered. We were told that Kane is not good with cats, so we are looking for a cat-free home for this handsome boy.

--->
Sandrah
BREED: German Shepherd Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Adult
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Sandrah is a beautiful, sweet lady we rescued from death row in a rural shelter. Her caretaker tell us that she is the perfect dog. She is sweet, gentle, well-behaved and good with everything and everybody (people, children, dogs and cats). At the shelter the volunteer children loved her so much that they gave her a bath. He coat was matted and very neglected so the kind grooming ladies had to cut out the mats in several spots - her hair is growing back in and she is going to be a gorgeous lady. Sandrah is around 8 years old and out of the crazy doggie stage: she enjoys cuddling and spending time with her people and just relaxing. She greets her people with a happy wooof-wooof. Sandrah is up-to-date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative. She is in one of our distant foster homes and is patiently waiting for her forever family. She is looking forward to traveling to her forever-home.

Mustang Sally
BREED: German Shepherd Mix
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Mustang Sally got her name by hanging out under Dan's Mustang whenever he parked at his job downtown. She only chose the Mustang, but perhaps she was really choosing Dan, because he took pity on her and then with his wife's blessings brought Sally home. She had demodex mange (not the catching kind), but is being treated for it and it is healing up nicely. She has been spayed and has had all of her vaccinations. She had been living with Dan and his wife K.C. and their dog Harley. She is housebroken, good on a leash, and crate trained. She still has some adolescent silliness and need for a fenced yard or an active owner who would have the time to exercise her sufficiently. She is very sweet , affectionate and friendly. She will be a real gem for the person who decides to take this Mustang Sally home. Mustang Sally is being fostered in TN bacause of the lack of foster homes in Baltimore. She is looking forward to travel to her new forever home. You can email Prisi at percy40@comcast.net or call and speak with Lisa or Prisi at 615-230-9419 to find out more about this lovely girl.

Chance
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: Adult
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Chance is one gorgeous bi-color, black and tan, German Shepherd who's looking for a good home. He is 3-4 years old with one soft ear (doesn't stand) which we think gives him character. Chance is healthy and ready for a family to love. He is a big boy at around 100 lbs and 28+ inches tall at the shoulder. This boy had a rough start before reaching our rescue but now he is a different dog. He has gained more than 40 lbs! Chance is neutered and up-to-date on shots and housebroken.

Bravo - Our Hero
BREED: German Shepherd
SIZE: Large
AGE: Senior
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Bravo is not available for adoption. He will live out his life in his rescue home. Bravo has some health problems and if you would like to help him, please email for the name of his vet. He also LOVES toys and we can't afford as many as he likes. If you are willing to send him a toy, please email for his address. Bravo was imported from Holland when he was 3 years old and worked for U S Customs at a major airport for 5 years keeping our country safe from narcotics. After he retired from Customs, he was donated to a KY Sheriff's Department to work narcotics at their jail. When KY was through with him, he was not given a hero's retirement. He was thrown away like a wrecked police cruiser. Bravo did not deserve to wind up in a dog pound but that is exactly where he was DUMPED. US Customs was NOT aware that the KY sheriff's department dumped poor Bravo until our rescue contacted them. U S Customs is happy that we are giving Bravo a hero's retirement because they care about what happens to their dogs. Bravo deserves to be appreciated and loved for the remainder of his life. Second Hand Shepherds Rescue in AR has made a commitment to Bravo...he will be pampered and loved for the remainder of his life. He will have good food to eat, toys to play with, a soft orthopedic bed to sleep on in the house, and a German Shepherd lover who thinks he is a hero to make sure he has anything he needs to make him happy. Bravo's working name was Questor when he worked narcotics for U S Customs.

Vince Long-Hair ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd
SIZE: Large
AGE: Adult
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Sweet Vince is around 8 years old but he does not pay attention to his age. He loves to run and play with other dogs. German Shepherds, like good wine, just get better with age. Those little devils that chew up everything in their way turn into dignified, regal ladies and genlemen around the age of 5. He is thin at 64 lbs but is receiving good food and should reach around 85 lbs in no time. His hair is thin from malnutrition but we believe he is a long haired German Shepherd. Vince will be neutered before being placed with his new family. We are waiting until he gains weight before having his surgery. Vince needs a home where he will be a house pet and important part of a family.

Ranger ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large, around 70 lbs
AGE: 4-5 years
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Ranger is a gorgeous sable boy who came to us recently. Ranger loves people, going for long walks, and, as the photos show, playing with his ball. He gets along nicely with the resident dogs in his foster home and has shown no interest in the cat. Ranger was very thin when he came to us: he has a very healthy appetite and is catching up with food. He currently weighs around 70lbs and should gain 5-6lbs more. He has not had accidents in his foster home since his arrival. He knows the commands "sit" and "down". Ranger is crate trained an enjoys relaxing in his crate on his comfy doggie-bed. Ranger is neutered, up-to-date on his shots, heartworm negative and on prevention.

The ophtalmolgist (eye specialist) told us that Ranger suffers from pannus, an inflammatory condition of the eye. Since this condition was left untreated he is blind in one eye. The other eye is affected, and Ranger is currently being treated with eye drops. The ophtalmologist expects that this eye is going to improve and Ranger will have normal eye-sight in this one. Ranger is going to need eye drops administered twice a day to keep the pannus under control. The cost of the tretment is estimated to be $15-20 a month. Ranger is good about having the eye drops administered. The problems with his eyes do not prevent him from chasing the ball. His favorite toy is the ball and he LOVES it. He loves to fetch and always carries the ball around with him. He entertained the people in the waiting room at the vet's office with his ball games and he earned himself a lot of fans.

Ranger is a happy, playful, active dog looking for a family to play with. As the photos show, he is good with children. Since he is so playful, he could knock down smaller ones in play, so he would do best with older children and adults.

Lola ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: 2-3 years
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Lola, like so many pets, is a sad victim of the war in Iraq. She was originally adopted from a shelter by her "dad", who is currently serving in Iraq. His father was supposed to care of Lola while his son was serving the country. Lola was given away, and was found wondering the streets of Baltimore. Animal Control traced down her family, but they did not claim her. Lola is such a wonderful girl, that the shelter called us to take her in when she ran out of time after three days at the shelter.

Lola is an amazing, loving and charming girl. She is very affectionate, loves to snuggle with her people and rolls on her back for rubs. She is a big and strong girl at around 80lbs, but she thinks she is a lap dog. She tries to have her head in the driver's lap when riding in the car. She thinks that this is the best way to enjoy the ride.

In spite of being a big girl (she could lose some weight, but who couldn't) Lola is quite active and energetic and loves to run in her yard. She has strikingly beautiful, unusual red color and a gorgeous thick coat. She is comfortable in the house and has not had accidents in her foster home since her arrival. Lola is good with the dogs in her foster home and is not interested in cats.

The vet thinks that Lola is spayed and she is up-to-date on her shots.

Wyatt ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog mix
SIZE: Large, 55 lbs
AGE: 2-3 years
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

This pretty boy was rescued from the gas chamber thanks to a wonderful foster mom who temporarily opened her home to him. Wyatt is the perfect boy: well behaved, affectionate and spoilt. He loves sharing the bed with his canine brothers and is trying to make friends with the cats. As usual, the cats don't exactly appreciate it. He is also getting acquainted with horses. Wyatt loves people and snuggling in their laps. He is a gorgeous boy, approximately 2-3 yrs old, who will make the perfect pet for a lucky family.

Wyatt is neutered, up-to-date on shots and housetrained. We discovered that he is heartworm positive and he underwent the first part of the heartworm treatment early May. He will be getting his second shot early June and he should be ready for his forever-home around the middle of June.

Buddy ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large, around 80lbs
AGE: 3.5 years
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Sweet Buddy came to us under tragic circumstances. His elderly human companion is very sick, suffering from cancer, and can no longer care for poor Buddy. With heavy heart he had to surrender Buddy to Animal Control. He called the shelter daily to find out how his beloved pet was doing. Animal Control contacted us to help find Buddy a new home - he is in one of our foster homes now.

Buddy is a very handsome, pure-bred German Shepherd with papers, Amarican lines. He is quite a large boy, around 80lbs. His owner purchased him as a puppy and cared very well for him. We have Buddy's vet records and papers. Buddy was a spoiled and cherished pet. He is sweet, quiet, well behaved in the house and housebroken. He is 3.5 years old, healthy, up-to-date on his shots and neutered.

Buddy was terrified at the shelter, being away from his owner and homeless in a loud, scary environment. He is recovering in his foster home, however he is quite depressed over losing his master. We are doing everything we can to help him through this difficult time. He is doing better now, however he keeps taking his foster mom to the door, so that he can go "home" where he belongs. He also keeps showing us the car that brought him to his foster home. Since Buddy is quite shy at this time, we would like to place him into a relatively quiet home, similar the one he is used to, with older children or adults. He was introduced to dogs in his foster home and did well with them.

Tippy ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: 2 years
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
UPDATE: Our girl Tippy is turning into a social butterfly: she has made many new friends recently and enjoys going for walks with them. Their most recent adventures took them to Petsmart where Tippy was thrilled with the toys, the smells and the action. The biggest news is that Tippy is starting her formal education this week - she will be attending obedience classes at Petsmart. She sends hugs and kisses to our volunteers who donated the funds for her schooling and the time to work with her. Tippy is excited about this new opportunity and has ambitious plans for the future. In addion to devoting herself to her future family, she is contemplating a singing career (she likes to accompany the sirens of the fire engines), sports (agility) or dedicating her life to helping others by tracking down lost humans. Would you help her with her choices?

This lovely lady, Tippy, is around two years old : DOB 6-14-2003, she is registered with the NAPDR (North American Pure Bred Dog Registry). She is mostly black in color with tan feet and ankles (blanket-type pattern), cute brown eyebrows and tan along the bottom side of her tail . She has grown a brand new, thick, shiny and soft black coat in her foster home. She is a beautiful girl and her photos don't do her justice.

Tippy is an adorable petite girl, a true German Shepherd in a small package, she weighs 50-60 lbs. She enjoys the good fopod in her foster home and has gained weight since with us. Her owners surrendered her to the shelter because they were not able/willing to provide for her.

Although she was kept outside all her life, she picked up basic house manners in no time and has not had any accidents since she arrived in her foster home. Tippy is very smart: she quickly learnt to walk on a leash and basic obedience. She knows basic commands and is also crate-trained.

Tippy is initially shy with new people, but will warm up quickly, especially with treats. She is very loving and affectionate. She LOVES children and showers everybody with kisses. She LOVES to play with her toys and run around the house with with them. Tippy can entertain herself with a ball for a long time, she is a joy to watch. She will roll around with it and throw the ball in the air. Her favorite entertainment is fetching. She also enjoys long walks and following the scents of squirrels and deer during her walks. Tippy loves running and playing in the snow, she was moving through the deep snow like a dolphin after the recent snow storm.

Tippy was tested by a seach and rescue team member and was found to be a tracking talent. Tippy is a lively and energetic girl - she is still somewhat like a puppy.

Tippy does well with the dogs in her foster home after figuring out that they won't hurt her, however, she seems to be afraid of energetic larger dogs that are pushy with her. She probably had some bad experiences with dogs in her first home. At this time we recommend a home without other dogs for Tippy. Tippy does very well with the resident cat, she has very little interest in him (the cat is dog-savvy and does not run), she will probably run if the cat runs, she does not want to hurt him though.

Tippy is very healthy, up to date on all shots and spayed. She is also heartworm negative and on prevention.

Solveig Bittersweet - ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large, around 75 lbs
AGE: 4 years
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Our girl Solveig Bittersweet was named after the heroine of Grieg's (famous Norwegien composer) song

Solveig's song
The winter may pass and the spring disappear
The spring disappear
The summer too will vanish and then the year
And then the year
But this I know for certain: you'll come back again
You'll come back again
And even as I promised you'll find me waiting then
You'll find me waiting then

God help you when wand'ring your way all alone
Your way all alone
God grant to you his strength as you'll kneel at his throne
As you'll kneel at his throne
If you are in heaven now waiting for me
In heaven for me
And we shall meet again love and never parted be

Solveig, barely a year old at the time, got away from her family 3 years ago (they did not have a fenced-in yard). The family was moving, and since they were unable to catch her in the days available, they left Solveig behind. She stayed in the area and fended for herself for three years. Finally, late November, animal control caught her. After a 72 hour holding period Solveig was slated for euthanasia, which is when we stepped in and agreed to take her.

Considering the circumstances, Solveig is in excellent shape (very muscular and athletic) and has gained some weight in her foster home. Since she has not been on heartworm prevention, she was heartworm positive when she came to us - she was treated for this condition early December. She should have a clean bill of health four weeks after the treatment. She will be spayed after around Christmas and will be available to go to her forever-home after that. Solveig is up-to-date on her shots and on Frontline.

UPDATE: Solveig is doing beautifully in her foster home. She never had an accident and is very well behaved - she does not have to be crated. She is adjusting to the easy life beautifully: she loves lounging on the sofa or on her doggie-bed. She does the "happy-dog-dance" when her foster mom arrives home and at mealtime. She rolls on her back to be petted and likes to "talk" to her mom. She has musical talents as the heroine she was named after - Solveig sings with the fire engine sirens.

Solveig's heartworm treatment went very well - she is quite lively and playful these days and enjoys playing with her "boyfriend" Mickey. She does well with the dogs in her foster home. She is still shy with new people, but is getting better every day.

Abbey ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: 1 year
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Update: 1/9 Abbey is in her new foster home in Baltimore and she's going great. She's very friendly and plays well with her foster brother and sister. Abbey is gentle and quiet. She loves to get attention and gives kisses. She sleeps well in her crate and is doing well with housebreaking. She walks well on leash, but could use some basic obedience training. She's pretty smart too. She learned to sit in one try (she'll do anything for a cookie!!). Stay tuned for more!

Abbey is a sweet, friendly girl rescued from a high-kill shelter on her very last day. She made her way to Baltimore this weekend. This is what her first foster mom told us about her: "Abbey is a great dog, very friendly and loving. We estimate that she is around 1-1.5 years old. She is still very much a puppy! She has a gorgeous shiny dark coat. Abbey is a little shy around new people but warms up quickly. She loves toys and she will pick up the sock/shoe/pen whatever the closet things to her is and run around with it! She loves to play and enjoys picking up a toy and running all over the yard with it while being chased. She walks well on a leash and would love to go on long walks every day. She loves the outdoors and also loves to play with and chase other dogs. She had cats in her foster home and she was curious about them: followed them around and ran after them if they ran, she does not try to harm them. She is very sweet and likes to give kisses."

Abbey is healthy, up-to-date on her shots, spayed, hearworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is working on basic obedience with her foster mom and is being crate-trained. She is also working on house-training and does not have accidents in the house if let out at reasonable time intervals.

Salvo ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Medium, 45-50lbs
AGE: 1 year
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Salvo is a sweet young boy who ran out of time in a rural shelter just before Christmas. His rescuer named him Salvo (from the Latin salvus "safe, unhurt"). Salvo made it to Baltimore this weekend after a long trip trough a bad snowstorm.
This is what the shelter told us about him: "This is a sweet young boy!! He is black and silver and very soft spoken and sweet. He is well behaved and is sad at the shelter."

Salvo is a sweet, very friendly and affectionate little guy who enjoys attention (in particular rolling on his back to be petted). He is smaller than the average German Shepherd, he weighs around 50lbs, a handsome dark sable (his coloring is much like Eastern European working sables) in a smaller package. He is smart and well behaved in his foster home - no accidents yet. He is also friendly with the dogs in his foster home. Salvo learned the "sit" and "down" commands in no time and we are working on his leash manners. He is crate trained and enjoys car rides and going for long walks in the park. Salvo LOVES kids - as the photos suggest - and will make a wonderful family dog to a lucky family

Salvo is neutered, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, on prevention and very happy and healthy.

He is very sweet and well behaved - both in the home and on the leash. He appears to be housebroken and in good shape. He does well with the dogs in his foster home. As the photos show, Rhett also loves children and he had a blast with our volunteers in the park.

Morgan ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large, 75lbs
AGE: 4 years
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Morgan was found roaming the streets with another dog. He is doing beautifully in his foster home. His foster says he is a perfect boy. He is loving, sweet and well-behaved, a little shy with new people. He gets along nicely with the three resident dogs and is a little scared of the cat - he just walked away when the cat was mean to him. He loved a 4yo child he met at the vet's office. He would "sit" on command for the 4yo. He loves to be around his people and follows them whereever they are. He also loves to play like a puppy and he may be younger than we thought (some German Shepherds start developing grey around their muzzle at the age of 2). We estimate Morgan to be around 4 years old.

He is a perfect gentleman and is housebroken. Morgan is up-to-date on his shots and is neutered. He tested light positive for heartworms after he gains some more weight in his foster home. He is still very thin at 75lbs, he needs to gain some 10lbs at this time.

Morgan just made his way to Baltimore in the same car with Taiga, Gina and a very pregnant lab (saved from being gassed in a shelter and on the way to safety). The crew was so well behaved that they earned praises from the volunteers picking up the lab - who started delivering the puppies in the car.

Black Beauty Onyx - ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: approx. 70 lbs
AGE: around 18 months
SEX:Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Hi, I'm Onyx! I'm an approximately 18 month old black GSD. My owners moved off and left me and my pup in the back yard with no food or water, and we landed in the Humane Society. When they ran out of room and didn't have a place for us, they called the rescue and the rest is history!

I'm a very sweet, outgoing girl, and I love to 'talk' to you. I get along well with other dogs, and I love to play. I love to spend time with my family and sit in your lap. We're not sure how I feel about cats, since I haven't been around any. My mom says, I am beautiful: I have a gorgeous, shiny black coat and the most soulful brown eyes that will melt your heart.

I am up to date on routine vaccinations, spayed, and current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. I am also house trained; at least I haven't had any accidents! If you think you might be able to give me the forever home I long for, please fill out an application and let's get the ball rolling!

Rhiannon Nightfire ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: 3 years
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:

The name of this beautiful girl is Rhiannon Nightfire, and she is a gorgeous, solid black German Shepherd. Her current family rescued her from a shelter when her time was up and they nursed her back to health. Rhiannon was undernourished and has gained some weight with the good care she is receiveing now (she still needs to gain some weight). She was heartowm positive, and her family has treated her for this condition. Rhiannon was also spayed and her teeth were cleaned. She is up-to-date on shots.

When her current family rescued her they wanted to give her a "forever home." Sadly, they cannot do so as she does not get along with their two resident dogs. For this reason Rhiannon is looking for a home where she won't have to share her humans with other dogs. She will make a wonderful companion for someone. She is content to follow her people from place to place and then lay down at their feet and sleep. The television is a "wondrous" thing that she has discovered and she will twist her head from side to side whenever she hears a new noise. Her family is teaching her to play with toys. For a dog unaccustomed to being in a house she is very docile. She is not destructive. She wants to be a couch-potato. (She also likes the bed!!!) She gives many kisses and wants to be touched and doted upon. She is housebroken and crate trained. She especially likes it when you cover her crate and she can sleep quietly. She deserves a good home where she will be the "only child " and can be spoiled. She has never known what it is to be in a good, kind, loving home and to feel safe and secure. She likes to ride in the car. When outside, she goes immediately to the SUV and puts her paws up on the back bumper. For all she has been through she is remarkably still a very loving dog. She has probably been "roughly" treated as she will cower when you raise your voice in correction. She will, though, allow anyone to approach her and pet her. She is good with children. She deserves no less than complete love and security as she has been through such a rough start in life. She is, as you can see from these pictures, a very beautiful gal. Rhiannon lives with her family in WV and is willing to travel to her forever-home. If you are interested in adopting this beautiful young lady please contact her mom at Largopuff@aol.com

This is a courtesy post for Rhiannon's family. We have not evaluated Rhiannon and have no further information about her.

Mickey ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: 73 lbs
AGE: 2-3 years
SEX:Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

This handsome boy with soulful eyes is Mickey. He was rescued from a high-kill shelter only hours before being put down. We estimate Mickey to be 2-3 years old and he weighs around 75lbs. He is up-to-date on his shots, neutered and housebroken. He came to us heartworm positive and has received treatment for this condition - he has a clean bill of health now. Mickey is crate trained and knows basic obedience. He is good with other dogs and is not interested in cats.

Mickey had a hard start in life - he is a victim of abuse. He was hit by hand and with the leash and he still expects such treatment from strangers. Mickey is nervous around new people and needs to get to know them at his own pace. Once he knows the person, they are his best friends. Someone also used abusive training methods with this boy, and he is also nervous about collar corrections. Mickey can only be trained with positive reinforcement. We are looking for a very special home for this handsome boy - someone with patience to continue building Mickey's self-confidence and to gradually expose him to the world, at Mickey's pace. Mickey will reward his family with love and loyalty.

Mickey is wonderful in his foster home. He is very loving, happy, playful and affectionate. The first time he was exposed to toys was in his foster home. He LOVES to fetch and loves his toys. He always carries his ball around. He was skinny when he came to us and still eats as if he didn't know if there is a next meal. He is smart and easy to train, he would do anything for food. Mickey is also very agile, and would excel in obedience or agility. He loves to be brushed and petted.

If you can offer a very special home to this very special boy please submit an adoption application. If you cannot offer a home to Mickey, please consider sending him a toy, he loves them so much that his toys don't last long.

Gracie ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Hi! I'm Gracie, a 3 year old female who is super affectionate, and I haven't yet met anyone I don't like. I love attention, and I love to give kisses. They say I have the most soulful eyes, but hey, I'm just glad to be in a safe place!. I'm a little shy when I first meet new people, and I'm a little nervous in wide open spaces, but once I know I'm safe, you have a friend for life!

I was saved from a high kill shelter literally at the last minute. Whew, that was CLOSE! I love kids, and I like other dogs ok too, although I'm a bit intimidated by larger ones. I dont' really know how I fel about cats, but I think I would probably enjoy chasing them!

I'm up-to-date on routine vaccinations. Unfortunately, I'm heartworm positive. I hear this is pretty serious, but I've also been told I'll be starting treatment in a few days and that I'll be fine and feel much better afterwards. I can't wait! Once that's done, I'll get spayed and will then be ready for a new home. Could it possibly be with you?

Brandy ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Meet Brandy. She is approximately 2 years old, and they just don't come any sweeter! Brandy was rescued from a high-kill shelter after being dumped there by her owner. She is on the thin side right now, and is unfortunately heartworm posititve since she did not receive proper care at her former home. She began her heartworm treatment end of May, and will be on the road to recovery in no time. Brandy will be ready for her new home around the end of June, however you are welcome to submit an application and get pre-approved at this time. Brandy is currently not in the Baltimore area - she will come to us as soon as she is done with her heartworm treatment. Brandy is spayed and utd on vaccinations. She is not yet housetrained, however, she'll pick it up quickly in her foster home. She gets along well with other dogs, but does not like cats, so will need a home without one. She is a bit on the shy side when meeting new people, but warms up very quickly.

Hansel ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd
SIZE: Large
AGE: Adult
SEX: Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:

Hansel is a sweet, strikingly handsome boy who has captured the hearts of the shelter staff in KY and of many rescue volunteers. He is very special to us - many rescue angels pulled together to transport him to safety, from KY to VA and then to MD. He is a sweet, happy, gentle dog who enjoyed the long ride and the attention of the volunteers. His favorite activity is snuggling - he sometimes thinks he is a lap-dog and loves relaxing with his head in his humans' lap. Hansel immensly enjoyed a visit and the attention of a class of fifth graders at the shelter. He is fine with other dogs and likes to play with them when he has the opportunity. Hansel is around 3 years old - this is the perfect age for GSD. He has the puppy and teenage problems behind him and is ready to be the perfect gentleman and companion in a loving home.

He is heartworm negative, on prevention, up-to-date on shots and neutered. He is very handsome with a blanket-type coloring (most of the body black with tan legs and markings, rather than the classical saddle type coat).

Hansel is doing beautifully in his foster home. He is is well behaved in the house and have not had an accident. He is crate trained and knows basic obedience command, sugh as "sit", "down", "heel" and "paw". Hansel is smart and easy to train as he is very food motivated. Hansel is also into agility. In one of the photos he is showing off his play skills by standing on his rear legs. The volunteers who work with Hansel tell us that they are very impressed with his temperament. He is confident & friendly with everyone. We are taking him out to public places like Pet Smart, the local parks and shopping centers - nothing phases him.

Hansel is a very lucky boy - all he needs now is a forever-home to call his own. Please contact us if you would like to invite this pretty boy to join your family.

Cooper's situation is VERY URGENT!!!

This is what Cooper's onwer told us about him: Cooper is a tan/white German Sheperd/Greyhound mix. He is 4 years old, neutered, up to date on shots, and ready for a family to love him! He has been an asset and dear friend to me and I am saddened to part with him. Cooper is energetic, full of life, and loves the outdoors. He is approximately 50 lbs and is built like a greyhound. He has never had any formal training. I have raised him to be free around the house, but he is house trained and kennel trained. Margo - ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog
SIZE: Large
AGE: Young
SEX: Female

ABOUT THIS DOG:
Margo is extremely sweet and very maternal... we noticed how upset she was when her kennel-mate was adopted recently. She seemed confused and upset that he was no longer with her- almost like she had lost a puppy. We know that she has had a litter in the past, so we feel she would be very happy with another dog or just spoiled like crazy. Margo is wonderful with other dogs and has been very good with the children she has come into contact with. Unlike many female shepherds, she is very friendly with all people, men and women and (like I said) both male and female dogs, big and small! And she just loves to play!! Margo was dumped at a high-kill shelter by her former owner, and rescued from there just in the nick of time. She is the sweetest girl. When I went to pick her up from the shelter she put her paws on my shoulders like she was thanking me! She greeted everyone who walked by with a nose nudge and a wagging tail! She is good with the other dogs here at the rescue and everyone she has come into contact with so far. Margo is about 3 years old and is becoming absolutely gorgeous as she has recovered from the heartworms and is beginning to gain some much needed weight! Margo is up-to-date on shots, spayed and on heartworm prevention. She is looking for a forever family of her own.

Logan - ADOPTED
BREED: German Shepherd Dog mix
SIZE: 63 lbs
AGE: 2 years
SEX:Male

ABOUT THIS DOG:
We have listed Logan as a mix because his tail curls over his back. Logan is a gorgeous 2 year old, plush coated, 63 lbs neutered male. He has impeccable house manners and rides quietly in the car. Logan walks well on leash and will sit and shake hands. He is current on vaccinations until 3/2006 and is heartworm negative and on preventative. Logan gets along with both male and female dogs. He lived with a family for 1.5 years but when they moved to a home that did not allow pets, Logan found himself homeless. If you have a home where Logan can be a house pet and have a fenced yard, please contact us for more information.
